Parent & Staff Communication
Parent / Teacher Interviews or Conferences
Open lines of communication are vital and an essential part of the healthy
functioning of a Montessori school. Parent/staff conferences are scheduled
twice yearly, at the end of second and fourth terms. These are important
to your child's education and if you are unable to attend an interview on the
scheduled day, please make alternate arrangements with your child's teacher.
On-going Communication
Questions of an educational nature should be directed to your child's
teacher, by appointment. It is essential that teachers get immediate
feedback if you are concerned about your child's education. All our
teachers understand the importance of their role and the need for them to be
available to discuss your child at a mutually convenient time. Knowledge
about the context of a child's life helps a teacher in assisting your child's
development.
Please try to avoid discussing matters when leaving or collecting your child
as the teacher has other responsibilities at this time.
If you are dissatisfied with the results of your discussion with your child's
teacher, you may request a meeting with the Senior Directress and your child's
teacher. A Grievance Procedure is in place should you wish to take your
concern further.
Following these clear channels of communication will help everyone involved
and facilitate a speedy resolution.
Parent Information
Through an understanding of the methods and principles of Montessori
education, all parents can assist directly and constructively in the progress of
their own child. Each term, educational evenings are held to discuss
with parents particular aspects of child development and Montessori
philosophy. We also encourage you to read about the Montessori approach
and parents are required to observe a class before their child starts at the
school.
In addition to the observation required before your child is enrolled in
either pre-primary or primary, all parents are welcome to observe in
the classroom. Details of particular times and dates are to be
arranged between the teacher and the parent.
