Parent Information Evening
a parent's Northside News article May 21, 2001
Last term I was really inspired at the 3-6 parent evening on “Language”,
so much so that I feel I needed to share the experience with you.
As you know, the last thing we feel like doing after the children go to bed,
is to get back in that car and go to school. But on that particular
evening, I initially went to the meeting to support my children and also the
school. My motivation for being there very quickly changed when the
Directresses, Jennifer, Julia and Gunam began their talk.
I realised this meeting was not primarily for the school, it was for us, the
parents of children who are being educated in the most wonderful environment by
incredibly talented and dedicated teachers. This meeting was for me to
learn what my children are doing at school each day.
All three of the directresses spoke so fluently and clearly. They
described and demonstrated various activities they do with the children to
encourage language, and basically how they teach them to read and write.
They showed us how they present the work to the children and for me, having had
a public primary school education, I couldn’t help but notice the patience
they exuded and how quietly but nevertheless effectively they spoke to them.
This type of education is special. It was inspiring to see three people
with such a passionate love for their careers. I also found the talk very
helpful with ideas to promote the children’s learning at home. Better
parenting is something I always need help with.
This term there will be another Parent Information Evening and when it comes
around I will need it to refocus on what is going on in the classroom so that I
can continue at home, or at least try to. All the wonderful progress that
is being made there with our boys. It would be great if you could attend
the next meeting. I think both you and your children would really benefit
from your attendance and contribution.
Look forward to seeing you there.
